Annual Sustainability Report underscores the company's strong commitment to sustainability

Permobil's Annual Sustainability Report underscores the company's strong commitment to sustainability and its ambitious carbon emissions targets.

The report shows that CO2e emissions have decreased by 55% compared to the 2018 baseline, moving closer to the 70% reduction target.

Now available, the report offers an overview of our work in the four sustainability focus areas for the company: better for users, better for employees, better for the environment and better for business and communities.

“We are constantly looking at how we are working with our Sustainability focus areas at Permobil and striving to improve our metrics and activities. For instance, we are moving to measuring our CO2e emissions per power wheelchair rather than in absolute terms and continuing discussions with our suppliers on the significance of their climate change efforts,” said Marika Isberg, General Counsel and Sustainability lead.

In 2023, Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2e emissions saw further reductions compared to 2022, amounting to a 55% decrease from the 2018 benchmark. Notably, Scope 2 emissions nearly halved between 2022 and 2023, driven by the increased use of renewable energy via renewable energy certificates.

In the area of better for users, Permobil has continued exploring how to appraise people’s quality of life in a meaningful and replicable way. In 2023 we conducted a survey of 107 Permobil F5 Corpus VS users to gain deeper insights of how they use the power wheelchair and its impact on their lives. Further studies in collaboration with research partners are planned for 2024.

“In preparation, for the EU’s CSRD (European Union’s Corporate Social Reporting Directive), we conducted a double materiality assessment in 2023. The double materiality assessment included the impact of external environmental and social issues on Permobil’s operations and financial performance, incorporating feedback from both internal and external stakeholders,” said Camilla Andersson, Director of Sustainability.

Reflecting Permobil’s strong focus on users-first, we have again placed the people who use our products at the center of this report. The report includes two portraits of people who use our wheelchairs to highlight the difference our products can make to people’s lives. As last year, almost all of the images used in this report are our users’ own photos (or their loved ones). This is their own portrayal of their lives.
