Permobil launches the Workplace Accessibility Guide – a comprehensive collection of practical advice and tips for making workplaces more accessible and welcoming for everyone. The guide covers key areas of the workplace, from the design of receptions, elevators, and meeting rooms to the color choices of floor moldings. The recommendations are based on Permobil’s nearly 60 years of experience with the users of their products and on the lessons learned during the construction of their new 2024 production and innovation facility in Sundsvall, Sweden. 

The purpose of the Permobil Workplace Accessibility Guide is twofold: to highlight the importance of accessibility in workplaces, and to inspire employers, architects, and construction companies how to create inclusion through environmental spaces. It is possible to create the right conditions where everyone can thrive and where all talents can be fully utilized. 

“Workplace accessibility and inclusion are about all people’s equal value and right to equal treatment, but also about talent acquisition in a job market where this is one of the major challenges for companies today,” says Bengt Thorsson, CEO of Permobil. 

The Permobil Workplace Accessibility Guide offers tips and recommendations across ten key areas of the workplace: parking, reception, stairs, elevators, meeting rooms, coffee stations, corridors, restrooms, kitchens, and lunchrooms. It also features interviews with wheelchair users who share their personal work-life experiences and provide insights into what employers should consider helping create an inclusive environment. 

The guide also features inspiration from the accessibility experts at the House of Disability Organisations in Copenhagen - pioneers in the field - who contributed their expertise during the construction of Permobil’s Sundsvall facility. 

“With this guide, we hope to showcase smart solutions that open up the job market for more people to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances,” says Bengt Thorsson.
